He is the law. Again. But, like, forget about that other time. |
The sell:
In a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner, a cop teams with a trainee to take down a gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO.My take: The original was goofy and honestly pretty awful but, for those of us who don't let that get in the way of a good laugh, (I'm looking at you, Rob Schneider and Adam Sandler fans) reasonably entertaining. Why on Earth did anyone think remaking this heap of laughable, cult-followed crap was a good idea? Well, the comics are actually pretty rad and quite popular in the UK, I might add.
The optimistic side of me says "Oh hey! It's written by Alex Garland (28 Days Later, Sunshine). But the pessimistic side of me says "Remember those movies that started from awesome comics? I'm thinking of you, Punisher: War Zone, Catwoman, Howard The Duck, Doc Savage, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, The Shadow, The Spirit, Elektra, Jonah Hex, Steel, Daredevil, Barb Wire, The Phantom, Spiderman 3, Batman and Robin, Captain America (1990)... okay, okay -- I'm running out of breath.
The first half of the trailer looks almost promising: drug lords, dystopian future, slow motion catch phrases... neat. Looks like they're trying to keep a bit closer to the comics with this one. But the second half of the trailer? Eeesh. Well, check it out for yourself.
